    Introduction:
    Volatile oil, also known as essential oil, is a general term for a class of volatile oil like components that can be distilled with water vapor and are immiscible with water. Evaporate and condense the azeotrope of water and volatile oil in the sample, and collect the distillate. Due to different densities, the distillate is layered in the receiving tube to extract the volatile oil from the sample.
    The principle of toluene method for measuring moisture is based on the fact that the boiling points of two immiscible binary liquid systems are lower than the boiling points of each component. The moisture in the sample is evaporated and condensed with the azeotropic solution of toluene, and the distillate is collected. Due to different densities, the distillate is layered in the receiving tube. The moisture content in the sample can be calculated based on the volume of water in the distillate.
